Being around the music industry for the past ten years has taught me many valuable lessons. Though I never wanted to be an artist, I have always participated in packaging and promoting them. I was able to enter into various studios and entertainment venues watching the behind the scenes action. The average person will never understand the amount of work that is put into a number one hit. Being the best in this industry is only possible because of the attention to detail that the artist and label pay to breaking their product. They are only the best because they value every step in the process of song and brand creation and promotion.
So if being the best takes a substantial amount of effort, why do unsigned artists still try to reinvent the wheel? Every artist is only as good as their best record. With that being said, if your best record is rough around the edges, then you as an artist have failed your product. A great song is only as great as it’s foundation. Did you bring each track in carefully and address all areas of weakness? Did you ensure that the appearance of your product was competitive and innovative? Did you master your product and the image of your brand? If you answered no to any of these, then you can’t expect to make it in the music biz.
A platinum artist is one in a million and only the most polished actually make it into the game. I am tired of seeing artists base their success on a hot beat or a dope verse. The internet provides us with a library of millions of independent songs that the masses will never have the chance to know. If you want to be taken seriously as an artist, STUDY and PAY ATTENTION TO DETAIL. The professionals will see your shortcuts as a weakness and move on to the next.
